Police are asking for the public’s assistance in finding the driver and vehicle involved in a hit-and-run wreck that seriously injured a pedestrian earlier this month in Ka‘u.

At about 11 p.m. March 19, officers responded to a report of a traffic accident involving a pedestrian on Hawaii Boulevard in the Hawaiian Ocean View Estates subdivision.

Police determined a 24-year-old man, who was lying on the road, was ran over by a northbound vehicle.

The man sustained multiple injuries and was taken to Kona Community Hospital and later transferred to The Queen’s Medical Center in critical condition.

The suspected vehicle is described as a newer-model white four-door Nissan pickup truck driven by a Caucasian man wearing a white brim hat.

Anyone with information about the driver or vehicle is asked to call the police nonemergency line or Crime Stoppers at 961-8300.
